This edition includes 10 illustrations. After the great success of his novel The Call of the Wild, Jack London published The Sea-Wolf in 1904. Thought it was a departure from the anthropomorphic style that characterizes his most famous works (including White Fang in 1906), London’s unflinching willingness to explore the brutality of human nature – in the person of Wolf Larson, a sociopathic, manipulative sea captain encountered by the narrator Humphrey van Weyden – is in keeping with his overarching themes of wilderness and survivalism. The character of Wolf Larson is as memorable and as animalistic as any of London’s villains, human or otherwise.

There is a reason this book is called a classic. It has stood the test of time. To me time has made it hold a stronger impact with the modern world's view of seal hunting adding to the ambiance of brutality.Though there was a significant amount of sailing jargon that I did not fully grasp, it did not diminish my enjoyment. Of the book at all.
Classic book.

The Sea Wolf Illustrated edition by Jack London Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Very good story .especially because of the time period the rule and will of a strong and brute to control over so many on the ship. And almost evil presentes lording over the crew of his ship!
Lovely yarn, the style is apropriate for the period it was written in. The environment and the characters are well depicted, although the main participants are almost superhuman in strength and constitution.
Honestly, I am still learning English. Besides, I cannot cope with so many part names of sailing ships. However, even with so many parts I vaguely understood and missed the exact meanings, this was enough to make me change my position on the couch while reading through many hours.
I've really enjoyed the story and the writing. This book is better than Call of the Wild and White Fang, and those are great books.
A proper sea adventure story idolizing the hard work required in seamanship over a century ago. Although conservative in views, I liked the way the mental struggles of the protagonist were portrayed, and the battle between him and the unimaginable terror of his captain. But for me this book was really about the adventures on wild seas.
I started reading this book twice in my teen years and never finished it. It nagged me until now at age 56 I've finished reading it. It was awesome! It's a, "wimpy rich dude has to step up and get tough," type of story.
My only criticism is that there's quite a bit of sailing terminology and descriptive narrative using same. But you can just gloss over those paragraphs without missing anything.
My first Jack London book and I've already bought the next.
